Abstract

567,308. Casting. BROADHURST, H. M., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Aug. 4, 1943, No. 12568. [Class 83 (i)] Moulds; mould materials.-The quality of alloy rod for pyrophoric lighters is improved by casting the alloy into ferrous moulds which have been coated with magnetic oxide by heating under oxidizing conditions. The moulds may be coated by heating to a dull red in a current of air or steam. The alloy may comprise iron and mischmetal and may be cast in the treated mould directly it has cooled to about 100‹ C.
