Abstract
426,258. Casting composite articles. AGA HEAT, Ltd., 456, Oxford Street, London. -(Bjorneborgs Jernverks Aktiebolag ; Varmlands, Bjorneborg, Sweden) Dec. 15, 1934, No. 36036. [Class 83 (i)] In casting articles, such as a stovo known under the Registered Trade Mark " Aga," consisting partly of iron containing 20-40 per cent of chromium and partly of a different alloy or of pig-iron, a cooling insert is placed in the mould to constrict it adjacent the junction of the two metals. The insert is made of cast iron, sand-blasted and cleaned in sulphuric acid and then placed at once in petrol until required. An insert 1 may be located against one or both walls of the mould 2, Fig. 3, or be supported by nails away from both walls 2, Fig. 4. The mould is filled to a point ¢" below the insert with the ferrochrome alloy 4 through a runner 9 then with pig-iron 5, through a runner 10, to 4" above the insert. After a pause of 20 seconds the mould is filled with the pig-iron.
