A hot-top is made by supplying moulding- material, which may be exothermic, to the space between an inner template 1 and a head-box 3, compacting it as by jolting, hardening with CO 2 gas supplied through vents 5, and then lifting the rigid product from the template. The template may carry preformed units or slabs 9 of exothermic material. Specification 627,678 is referred to.
