821,660. Securing wheels on shafts. RENOLD CHAINS Ltd. Nov. 5, 1957 [Nov. 29, 1956], No. 36575/56. Class 80 (2). The internally-coned bore 13 of a wheel-hub 12 is drawn axially over the externallyconed surface of a split sleeve 14 to contract the sleeve on to a cylindrical shaft, by tightening screws 19 into the hub to draw wedges 18 up inclined flats 25 on the larger end of the sleeve. Apart from the complementary flats 25 the wedges 18 are cylindrical and engage part-cylindrical recesses in the hub 12. Sleeves 14 having different internal bores may be used to cater for different shaft diameters, an additional port split being used with thicker sleeves. Removal is facilitated by an additional screw 28 which is slackened back to abut a shoulder 27 formed by an arcuate recess 26 in the sleeve, thereby pushing the hub off the taper.
