846,951. Coupling wheels to shafts. HOFMANN, D., and HOFMANN, R., [trading as HOFMANN KOMMANDIT-GESELLSCHAFT MASCHINENFABRIK GEB.]. Nov. 5, 1957 [Nov. 29, 1956], No. 34509/57. Class 80 (2). Apparatus for securing a vehicle wheel 11 to the shaft 1 of a balancing machine comprises a hub member 3 mounted on the shaft and carrying axially-projecting stubs 4 positioned to pass through the fixing holes for the wheel, a clamping - member 6 carrying tubular centring spigots 7 arranged to engage the portions of the stubs 4 projecting from the wheel, and clamping means 8 operative between the spigots 7 and abutments on the stubs 4 to clamp the spigots against the wheel. The spigots 7 have tapered ends to engage the wheel holes, and are rigid with the clamping member 6 which carries headed pins 10 bearing against cam surfaces on a face of the clamping. means 8. The clamping means 8 has a radial flange which locates against abutments formed by recesses 5 in the stubs 4, the flange being recessed at its periphery to allow axial movement before it is rotated to clamp the member 6 and spigots 7 against the wheel. In a modification, axial clamping movement of the member 6 is produced by screw-threads on the axial flange 6a and in the bore of the clamping means 8.
