Abstract

558,442. Thrust bearings. HOLBROOK, R. E. July 2, 1942, No. 9163. [Class 12 (i)] A double radial thrust bearing comprises a pair of thrust blocks 13, engaged by a separating ring 12 on or secured to the shaft 10 and provided with spherical faces 14 engaging conical or spherical parts 18 of bearing members 16, 17 curved to a radius greater than that of the faces 14. The blocks 13 may each be formed in two parts, one part having the face 14 and the other part engaging the ring 12, the two parts being a press fit. The members 16, 17 may be secured together and carried by one support 22, or they may be separate and each carried by a separate support and in this latter case the ring 12 may be a driving pinion for the shaft 10. Rotation of the blocks 13 is prevented by fixed pins 30 engaging slots 31 in the blocks. The members 16, 17 are adjustable axially to meet wear of the parts. Specification 279,646, [Class 12 (i)], is referred to.
