Abstract

463,398. Bearings. PEYLNGHAUS, W., (trading as EISEN UND STAHLWERK W. PEYINGHAUS). June 24, 1935, No. 18086. Convention date, June 23, 1934. [Class 12 (i)] A bearing comprises more than two non-tiltable bearing members 2, 3, 4, of arcuate form each having a single bearing surface, a bearing housing of substantially cylindrical form corresponding to the external contour of the bearing members, a rotary member 1 which is cylindrical, smooth and free from holes, grooves or other interruptions in the bearing zone, the bearing members being spaced circumferentially to provide radial oil inlet channels 6, 7, between the side edges thereof, each bearing surface being free from holes, grooves or other interruptions and being symmetrically shaped with respect to its radial central plane, and the radius of curvature of each bearing surface being at all parts greater than that of a circle drawn to touch all the bearing surfaces internally so as to provide long narrow wedge-shaped lubricant inlet spaces 2<1> between each bearing and the rotary member for both directions of rotation. The inlet channels 6, 7, are arranged outside the zones of principal loading. As shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the bearing blocks 2, 3, 4, are carried in a split ring 12 having projections 12<1>, 12<11> to prevent the blocks from axial and circumferential movement. Oil is supplied to the channels 7 by feeding rings 13 and scrapers 15. As shown in Fig. 8, the blocks are mounted in a ring 25 having a plurality of grooves 25<1> on its perimeter. The ring 25 may be adjusted circumferentially and secured by keys 26 engaging a pair of the grooves 25<1>. In another modification for a step bearing the blocks have end thrust faces bearing against a shaft collar. The thrust faces have wedgeshaped oil inlet spaces. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, comprises also a construction consisting of.a multiple collar thrust bearing having bearing blocks provided with wedge-shaped lubricant inlet spaces. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
