Abstract
550,721. Thrust bearings. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. June 19, 1941, No. 7748. Convention date, June 22, 1940. [Class 12 (i)] In a thrust bearing with two relatively rotating parts in contact, one part is caused to move transversely of the shaft and relatively to the other part. In one form, Fig. 1, a collar 3 on the shaft 1 engages an intermediate member 4 which has slots engaged by pins on the bearing 2 and is moved by a connnecting rod 8 from an eccentric on a driven shaft 9. Shaft 9 is preferably driven at a speed in excess of shaft 1. In a modification, Fig. 3, the collar 3 is pinned at 13 to a face ring 11 engaging a floating ring 19 with an inclined surface 12. Ring 19 engages a part-spherical ring 15 with slots engaging pins 18 on the thrust face 14 of bearing 2. The spherical surface 16 of ring 15 has a centre of curvature 17 displaced with respect to the axes c of shaft 1 so that ring 19 will have slip on both its surfaces 12, 16.
