Abstract
527,560. Crank shafts. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG AKT.-GES. April 14, 1939, No. 11418. Convention date, April 14, 1938. [Class 80 (ii)] A built-up crank shaft is characterized by the feature that the the crank pin d, Figs. 1, 1a, and the main bearing journal a, b, or adjacent portion of the shaft, are provided respectively with heads f, c which are placed one against another with fitting surfaces and are forced together by a shrunk-on ring g placed round them. With this construction, the crank shaft is composed of small separate parts requiring only relatively small blanks which may be so selected that their fibres will lie in a direction best able to resist stresses. Many modifications are described in which (1) pins are inserted in the contacting- surfaces, (2) the fitting surfaces are stepped, Fig. 3, (3) the parts c, f, g are all circular, (4) interengaging bodies of revolution are employed surrounded by the shrunk-in ring i, Fig. 8, to which a balance weight h may be secured or form ably integrally therewith, and (5) the heads may be stepped at the fitting surface, Fig. 10a, where the sum of the radii of pin and shaft is greater than the throw of the crank.
