Abstract

628,288. Circlips. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. March 6, 1947, No. 6366. Convention date, Oct. 10, 1945. Class 89 (ii)] A circlip, shown for securing a ball race against a shoulder in a shaft has a pair of opposed key members 16 to engage a groove 14 in the shaft and a pair of masses 17 located between the keys and connected to them by resilient sections 18. Pressure applied to the mass 17 deforms the ring and allows the keys to slide over the shaft to engage the groove under the resilience of the ring when pressure is removed. The masses 7 are such that their centrifugal effect exceeds that of the keys and maintains tight engagement of the keys in the groove when the shaft is rotating at high speed.
