[Class 110 (i)] A compressor comprises two independentlydriven stages which may be required to run at different speeds. One stage may be of the axial flow type and the other of the centrifugal type. The stage shafts are geared together by a wheel train of the appropriate gear ratio and including a clutch of the free-wheel type which allows one element to over-run the other when a minimum speed ratio between the stages is reached.
