Abstract

[Class 110 (i)] A supercharger has two impellers 16, 17, on concentric shafts 26, 27, which rotate at different speeds, the speed of 17, preferably being greater than that of 16. Inlet guide vanes 26, may be moved as a whole, by a crank 22. Diffuser blades 23 may be provided in the outlet duct 12. The impellers may rotate in opposite directions. A driving gear 34 drives the shaft 26 through a double gear 32 and a gear 28, and the interaction of these gears causes a disc 30 to rotate, relatively to the shaft 26, causing a gear 33 to rotate and travel around a ring gear 35, and drive the sleeve 27 through a gear 29. The setting of the inlet vanes 20 may be controlled automatically, such as by servo control, in accordance with the output pressure of the compressor. The gear train may be varied.
