Abstract
495,864. Expanding - pulley gearing. WULFEL, E. Feb. 17, 1937, No. 4789. Void. Convention date, Feb. 25, 1936. [Class 80 (ii)] An expanding pulley f, f on a driving-shaft a is connected to a like pulley g, g<1> on an aligned driven shaft b through two like pulleys h, h and i, il on a parallel countershaft c. Of the driving and driven pulleys, the inner flanges f<1> g are fast on their shafts and the outer flanges f, g' are connected as by rods k to be displaced together to vary the speed ratio. Of the countershaft pulleys, the outer flanges h, i<1> are fast on the shaft and the inner flanges are connected by a sleeve l and adjust themselves automatically according to the wedging actions of two belts m, n. In a modification, the flange h<1> is slidable relatively to the sleeve against a coil spring. A plurality of complete gears may be arranged in series.
