Abstract
569,356. Variable-speed gearing. GUY MOTORS, Ltd., ANDREWS, A., GILBERT, W. H., and REECE, J. E. July 7,1943, No. 11005. [Class 80 (ii)] In a countershaft type gear-box the end of the driving-shaft 4 and the adjacent end of the countershaft 3 are both supported by bearings 22, 23 arranged at each side and in the immediate vicinity of the usual constant mesh gears 5, 6 between these two shafts, and the rear ends of the driven shaft 2 and countershaft 3 are both supported by bearings 27, 28 arranged at each side and in the immediate vicinity of the constant mesh gears 7, 10 for the first or low speed. The bearings 22, 23 and bearings 28 are carried by separate casings 24, 29, respectively, bolted to the open ends of the main gear-casing 25. Intermediate gears 8, 9 fixed to the countershaft 3 mesh with gears 12, 11 freely mounted on the driven shaft 2 and clutchable thereto by synchromesh clutches. Bearings are omitted between the intermediate gears. Specifications 569,354 and 569,355 are referred to.
