Abstract

1426718 Change-speed gear TURNER MFG CO Ltd 1 March 1973 [17 March 1972] 12533/72 Heading F2D A gear-box comprises two layshafts 12, 13 each extending parallel to an input shaft 10b, and each connected by gears 26, 33 with a gear 27 on an output shaft 11 coaxial with the input shaft, both layshafts having gears 22, 23 and 28, 29 rotatable thereon and meshing with gears 14, 15, 16, 17 fixed on the input shaft, at least one of the layshafts also having a gear 32 fixed thereon and meshing with a gear 18 rotatably carried by the input shaft, and synchronizer clutches 19, 25, 31 for selectively connecting the rotatable gears with their respective shafts. In the six-forward speed gear-box shown, the synchronizer clutch 31 establishes low ratio by coupling the gear 28 to the layshaft 13 so that drive is transmitted through gears 14, 28, 33, 27, and second ratio by coupling the gear 29 to the layshaft for drive through gears 16, 29, 33, 27. Third and fourth ratios are established by the synchronizer clutch 25 which causes drive to be transmitted through either of gear pairs 15, 22 or 17, 23 and thence through gears 26, 27 and fifth and sixth ratios are established by the synchronizer clutch 19 which couples the gear 18 to the input shaft or the input shaft directly to the output shaft. Reverse ratio is provided by a clutch 24 and gear 21 in mesh with an idler (not shown) meshing with the gear 14. A modified construction incorporates a two-range gearing arrangement in place of the gears 26, 27, 33 to provide eleven forward speeds.
