Abstract

553,067. Bearings. PHILLIPS & POWIS AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and DAVIS, W. A. Oct. 2, 1941, No. 12746. [Class 12 (i)] A self-aligning shaft bearing comprises a shell 8 with inner spherical surface and segmental members 9, 10 with outer spherical surface 12, the segments being inserted or removed one at a time in the absence of the shaft by turning and swinging movements. The shaft, when in position, prevents relative movement of the segments. The segments may have laterallyextending shoulders to increase the bearing area, the shoulders being provided with flats or chambers to permit the turning movement. The segmental members may be composed of graphite-impregnated synthetic resin.
