Abstract

845,333. Securing articles on shafts. TORRINGTON CO. Aug. 6, 1958 [Sept. 5, 1957], No. 25139/58. Class 80 (2). [Also in Groups XXV and XXXIV] In a roller bearing comprising an outer race 11, a fixed stud 7 forming an inner race 9, and rollers 10, the parts are retained in the assembled condition by washers 13 which are secured to the stud 7 by snap rings 20. The washers 13 are located in recesses 12 in the outer race 11. The snap rings 20 engage aligned end recesses 14 in the washers 13 and grooves 15, 16 in the stud 7. Each snap ring 20 comprises radially projecting lugs 23, adapted to be received in a pocket 19 of the recess 14, and chordal portions 21, 22, adapted to engage a corresponding chordal portion at the bottom of the groove 15 or 16. Alternatively, the portions 21, 22 may be located diametrically opposite the lugs 23. In a modification, the diameter of the bore 14, Fig. 6, increases with its depth and the snap ring 25 has a rounded periphery.
