Abstract

724,535. Tapered-roller bearings. BRITISH TIMKEN, Ltd. Oct. 5, 1953 [Jan. 2, 1953], No. 107/53. Class 12 (1). A double-row tapered-roller bearing has a single radially split cage with end portions 15 which co-operate with recesses 19 formed in the ends of the inner race 9, and the rollers have circumferential grooves 13, 14 intermediate their ends engaging thrust ribs 10, 11 provided on the inner race 9. Alternatively the 'ribs 10, 11 may be - provided on the outer race 1. The end cage portions 15 may alternatively or additionally engage recesses provided in the outer race 1. The cage is composed of similar halves comprising end rings 15 having integral axially-projecting spacing arms 16 which are connected together by rivets 17 disposed in aligned holes 18 in the arms 16. The inner or outer race may be radially split, and the rollers may have their large ends presented inwards, as shown in Fig. 2, or outwards as shown in Fig. 9.
