Abstract

922,120. Bearings. SVENSKA KULLAGERFABRIKEN A. B. Dec. 17,1959 [Feb. 6,1959], No. 42920/59. Class 12 (1). [Also in Group XXII] In a double-row spherical roller bearing having barrel-shaped rollers, the rollers are centred by a cage formed by two similar window-type cage members interconnected by at least one member which slides on the spherical outer race common to both rows of rollers. The bearing comprises an inner race 12 with a guide ring 16 mounted thereon which assists in the guiding of the rollers, an outer race 13, rollers 14, cage members 15, and an interconnecting ring 17 whose external radius 19 is less than that of the outer race. The ring 17 is in two parts riveted or screwed together at 20, and the cage members are connected by projections 18 on the ring 17 which fit into grooves in the cage. Several alternative methods of securing the cage to the ring are described, and the ring may be formed by two circular plates having external flats to allow insertion into the bearing, the plates then being riveted together to secure the cage members, or it may comprise a single split ring or a deformable ring to allow insertion into the bearing. In a further modification, the ring may be formed by segments 32 of synthetic plastics material, Fig. 9, externally shaped to provide lubricating passages 35.
