Abstract

888,197. Roller bearings. SCHAEFFLER, W., and SCHAEFFLER, G., [trading as INDUSTRIEWERK SCHAEFFLER OHG]. June 11, 1959 [June 16, 1958], No. 20048/59. Class 12 (1). A comb-like cage, for a roller bearing, comprises a split ring 1 having a number of axiallyextending webs 4 with concave surfaces to receive the rollers 3. The radial gap 2 coincides with one of the webs 4 and the rollers extend beyond the ends of the webs. In a modification, Fig. 3, the radial gap is situated between the webs and one of the rollers extends into this gap. The roller ends engage a rim 12 of a race 13 at one end, and a ring 6 at the other end. In another modification the ring is formed in two parts spaced apart to accommodate two rollers therebetween. The gap walls are concave-shaped to receive the rollers which engage both rims of the race. The cage may be formed from synthetic plastic material and may be produced from a strip or moulded to shape.
