661,256. Bearings. AKTIEBOLAGET SVENSKA KULLAGERFABRIKEN. Oct. 31, 1949 [Nov. 4, 1948], No. 27890/49. Class 12 (i). In a cage of the window-type for double-row, barrel-shaped roller bearings 3a, 3b, comprising a pair of independent annular body members 7a, 7b rotatable relative to the bearing races 1, 4, and each of the members 7a, 7b having closed pockets for a row of rollers, the side surfaces of the roller pocket that contact with the rolling surfaces of the roller in each pocket are formed geometrically by straight parallel generatrices following the contour of the roller, and are tangential to the rolling surface of the roller. The outer surface of each cage member may be substantially spherical as in Fig. 1 or the central portion 18 may be cylindrical and the end portion 19 conical, Fig. 6. The external diameter of the cage is equal to or less than the diameter of the edge opening 13 of the outer ring 1. Inwardly-directed flanges 8a, 8b are provided outside the rows of rollers, which bear on extensions of the inner races. Similar outwardly-directed flanges may be provided between the rows of rollers, which bear on the outer race of the bearing. Notches 15 may be provided in the flanges 8a, 8b for the insertion of a dismantling tool. At the middle of the outer edges of each cross-bar 9, local projections 12 are provided for retaining the rollers in the pockets. The central portion of the cage is carried on a free guide ring 6 which is centred on the inner race ring 4 between the rows of rollers.
