Abstract
1441802 Bearings SKF INDUSTRIAL TRADING & DEVELOPMENT CO BV 6 July 1973 [7 July 1972] 32290/73 Heading F2A In a roller bearing comprising radially outer and inner race rings, the pivot moment of the outer ring predominates over the pivot moment of the inner ring when the skew of the rollers is zero, thus ensuring that the skew angle of the rollers during operation will be positive so that the axial component of the friction forces generated between the rollers and the raceway surfaces oppose axial load on the bearing. This is achieved in one of the following ways: (a) making the contact surface of the outer ring rougher than the corresponding surface of the inner ring; (b) providing the outer ring with a groove in the middle of the raceway; (c) chamfering the edges of the inner ring raceway; (d) reducing the osculation between the rolling elements and the inner ring. The invention is particularly applicable to double row spherical roller bearings.
