Abstract

594,411. Roller bearings. ABLETT, C. A. Nov. 13, 1944, No. 22310. [Class 12 (i)] To avoid the tendency of the rollers to twist or rotate spirally in a bearing having conical or cylindrical rollers the outer race is provided between its ends with interruptions designed to be of such axial width that the stress at the contact area of a roller with the outer race is greater than that at the contact area with the inner race. Thus as shown in Fig. 5 for a taper roller bearing the outer race has a groove 6d cut therein or as shown in Fig. 7 the outer race may consist of separate rings 3b, 3c spaced by a gap 12. The races may be undivided or divided by a generally axial plane. Specification 191,851, [Class 12 (i)], is referred to.
