Abstract

904,551. Securing articles on shafts. ANDERSON BOYES & CO. Ltd. June 30, 1960 [July 3, 1959], No. 22883/59. Class 80 (2). A drum, wheel, pulley or the like is secured to the end of a shaft 3 by a split externally coned sleeve 1 which is contracted on to the shaft by being drawn axially into a conical bore in the drum &c. hub 4 by set-screws 8 engaging threaded holes 9 in the sleeve and passing through holes 7 in a flange 6 which abuts the end of the hub. A key 5 prevents relative rotation of the sleeve and shaft. An end cap 14 bolted to the shaft provides an abutment for the sleeve. The flange 6 is formed with a spigot 10 which is outermost when the hub is secured to the shaft, as in the lower half of the Figure. To release the hub the screws 8 are removed, the flange is reversed so that the spigot 10 abuts the sleeve 1 as shown in the upper half of the Figure, and screws are introduced through holes 11 in the outer part of the flange and screwed into the hub.
