Abstract

581,424. Securing pulleys on shafts. PLATT BROS. & CO., Ltd., and CLEGG, J. K. May 2, 1944, No. 8238. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXX] The loose pulley b of a fast and loose system f, b is journalled on a capped sleeve c supported at its inner rim on a shoulder of the shaft d and at its outer end by a screw k threaded into a hole m formed concentrically in the end of the shaft. The cap is flanged at e to retain the loose pulley in position. The device is particularly applicable to the re-mounting of a pulley upon a worm shaft end, such as occurs in carding machines. In such case the pulley is rebored to fit the sleeve, and its boss is preferably reinforced by a ring n, suitably located at its inner end to form a thrust bearing against the fixed pulley f. The screw k may be shouldered as at j, j', and the inner rim of the sleeve is recessed at h to take over the end of the key i of. the fixed pulley. The pulley bearing surface may be hardened, and the sleeve c, be of brass or phosphor-bronze.
