Abstract
614,323. Piston rings. BRAMBERRY, H. M. Sept. 14, 1945, No. 23703. [Class 122 (i)] [Also in Group II] A split piston ring has a core of Nitralloy " N " surrounded by a prime hard nitrided case PC blended to the core through an intervening transition zone TZ. The nitrided case is of substantially uniform thickness, the construction allowing an unusually small crosssectional area of ring, e.g. the ratio of axial ring width FW is radial thickness FRT, being as 7 is to 15 or more, and a free joint opening sufficiently larger to permit assembly over the head of a piston without increasing the size of the said opening.
