Abstract

549,905. Wheel tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and WILLSHAW, H. July 29, 1941, No. 9611. [Class 144 (i)] A core or former of a tyre building machine is secured in driving engagement with the machine shaft 18 by a single central screw 36. The core preferably comprises segments each having a middle part 11 and side parts 12, 13 secured together by bolts 17, 17a providing for adjustment of the width of the core by shims or spacing rings 14. The gap 15 on the surface of the core is covered by a member 16 secured to the centre part. The segments are held together by disc-like members 19, 20, preferably coned at 21, 22, connected together by a screwed hub or sleeve 25. The machine shaft has a flange 28 with notches 29, 30 fitting over lugs 32, 33 formed in a recessed part of the disc 20 to transmit the drive, and has a reduced extension 34 threaded to receive the single screw 36. Screws 40 with washers serve as spacers between the flange 28 of the shaft and the core disc 20 to maintain constant the distance x of the centre line of the core from the machine end 27 of the shaft. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 544,745.
