Abstract

595,114. Driving grinding wheels. BEECH, W. R., and BYRNE, J. M. Aug. 29, 1945, No. 22181. [Class 60] An improved means for driving grinding- wheels is characterised by a friction drive wherein the circumference of the driving wheel is of a resilient material which is adapted to make frictional contact with the periphery of the grinding-wheel. The grinding-wheel 1 is mounted on a short dead axle 4 mounted in side members 5 of a beam on which is also mounted the driving wheel 2 having a pneumatic tyre 3. The peripheral speed of the grinding-wheel thus remains constant despite its reduction in diameter due to wear. Screwadjusting means 6 are provided for moving the driving wheel up to the grinding-wheel as the latter wears ; alternatively, the grinding- wheel may be adjusted.
