Abstract
814,154. Photographic silver salt diffusion-transfer process and transfer material therefor. AGFA A. G. June 7, 1957 [June 9, 1956], No. 18212/57. Class 98(2) A starch ether or a gallactomannan is used as a binding agent for at least the transfer layer to facilitate separation of the layers after image transfer. Examples specify (1) a gelatino silver chloride emulsion for the negative layer and starch methyl ether containing silver sulphide, hypo and saponin for the transfer layer; processing is effected with aqueous pmethylaminophenol sulphate, hydroqinone, potassium bromide and caustic soda, and the layers are dried over a heated roll before separation. (2) Addition of a proportion of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose to the negative layer, transfer layer and processing being the same as in Example 1 except that separation is effected after drying at normal temperature. (3) Addition of starch to the negative layer of Example 1 and the use of starch hydroxyethyl ether with a proportion of gelatin as binding agent for the transfer layer; processing includes passage over a heated roll with the transfer layer adjacent thereto. (4) Guar gum, silver sulphide, hypo and a wetting agent on a paper support for the transfer layer. Other starch ethers, and locust bean gum as a further galactomannan, and other nuclei, are quoted for use in the transfer layer. Either or both of the layers may contain small proportions of other colloids. The negative layer may include a matting agent such as starch, ethyl cellulose, barium sulphate or titanium dioxide.
