Abstract

748,891. Transfer material for the photographic development transfer process. OZALID CO., Ltd., and SMITH, G. W. March 15, 1954 [March 25, 1953], No. 8271/53. Class 98 (2). The transfer material, consisting of a paper or other base carrying a colloid layer containing precipitation nuclei, contains ammonium salts to neutralize developer remaining in the material after image transfer for the purpose of avoiding discoloration therein. Preferably the ammonium salts are present in a pre-coat layer as of gelatine, alubumen, starch, watersoluble cellulose ethers or water soluble natural gums, and the colloid with the nuclei, which may be of gelatine or starch, and may contain also a silver halide solvent, a developer and mercaptobenzthiazole, is coated thereover. In an example, paper is sized with water containing gelatine, ammonium chloride, formalin and saponin, dried, overcoated to produce a gelatine layer containing copper sulphide nuclei as described in Specification 715,196, hypo, saponin, hydroquinone and glycerine, and the transfer material so produced is immersed together with an exposed silver chloride negative material on a paper base in alkaline sodium sulphite solution, the two papers are then passed face to face through a pair of nipping rollers and separated after one or two minutes to produce a positive image on a clean white background in the transfer paper.
