811,226. Transformers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Feb. 21, 1957 [Feb. 21, 1956], No. 5366/56. Class 38 (2). For on load tap changing, a non-current breaking switch 1, 2, 3, 4 is connected to each tap of a transformer winding, and odd numbered switches 1, 3 and even numbered switches 2, 4 are connected respectively to contactors A, C, these contactors being connected respectively through further contactors B, D to output lead 5, and separate halves Z1, Z2 of an impedance being connected across the latter. For changing from tap 1 when switch 1 and contactors A, B are closed, to tap 2 when switch 2 and contactors C, D are closed, the following intermediate steps of switch and contact closure occur: 1, 2, A, B; 1, 2, A, B, C; 1, 2, A, C; 1, 2, C. The winding may be the high-tension winding of a transformer used in traction, the arrangement resulting in relatively even wear of the contactor contacts.
