A binary representation of a number to be converted to a voltage analogue is set up in a bank of relays R1 to R6 and the relay contacts are arranged to synthesize the required voltage. The relay contacts 16 to 21, associated with relays R1 to R6 respectively, control a conductive path between ground and the output terminal 22 into which may be switched successive sections 23 to 28 of a transformer secondary winding.
