Abstract

809,616. Harvesting seeds. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Aug. 7, 1957 [Aug. 7, 1956], No. 24227/56. Class 6(3). A machine for harvesting the seeds from standing grass-crops comprises two drums 14, 15 rotating about parallel axes transverse to the direction of travel 33 and carrying bristles 16 or other resilient projections which brush the seeds upwardly into a chamber defined by the drum-surfaces and a cowling 25 above them, the seeds then being carried away by an air-current. The frame 10 of the machine is carried on a tractor which drives the drums by a belt 19 and pulleys 18, 20 from the power take-off. The foremost drum 14 is mounted on the frame at a higher level than the rear drum. The cowling has part-cylindrical extremities 26, 27 concentric with the respective drums. As is shown in Fig. 2, the drums are arranged in pairs transversely, a fan 24 being mounted between the pairs to supply air to the cowling. Ducts 28, 29 lead to a bagging platform 32 on which operators may stand.
