Abstract

906,281. Seed sowing machines. DODWELL, J. M. Oct. 24, 1960, No. 36447/60. Class 6(1). [Also in Group XXVIII] A pneumatic seed sowing device comprises a hopper 35 which rotates with an endless belt 32 supported in a rigid support ring 42. The ring rotates in a chamber 45 provided with portions 47, 48 which form a vacuum chamber 46. Seed is picked up by means of openings 33 in the belt in a pick-up zone 36 and carried to a separating zone 38, where excess seed drops back into the hopper 35, and discharged down a shoot 40. Compressed air is used to discharge the seeds from the openings 33 and is fed through an opening 51. A vacuum pump (see Group XXVIII) is used to produce the vacuum in the chamber 46 and is connected thereto by means of conduits 77, 78. To cut off the vacuum and so prevent the belt from picking up seeds a pivoted flap 74 is operated by a cord 75.
