Abstract

1436008 Seed distributers H FAHSE & CO 1 Aug 1973 [28 Aug 1972] 36545/73 Heading AID Seeds are supplied from a hopper 2 to a seed container 52; are picked up by section holes 61 formed in a plate 25 which closes a rotating suction drum 24; are reduced in number to one seed per hole 61 by an adjustable stepped scraper 85; and are removed from the holes 61 by a suction interrupter and an adjustable ejector 65. The seed container 52 comprises a cover 47 hinged at 48 to the fixed housing 1 and releasably connected at 53 to the housing 1. The cover 47 is cut away at 59 and 60 and has a baffle 51 and a wall 54 sealing against the plate 25, the wall 54 including portions 57, 56, 55, 58. The suction drum 24 is connected via its stationary tubular shaft 4 to a source of reduced pressure, carries an agitator 44 and is driven by a chain wheel 20 according to the speed of the machine. The suction interrupter comprises a rubber-faced roller 35 engaging the circle of suction holes 61. The arm 34 carrying the roller 35 may be pivoted at its inner end to the collar 35 about an axis perpendicular to the axis of the shaft 4, and be loaded by a leaf spring towards the plate 25. The suction interrupter may instead comprise a rubber-faced plate mounted on a fixed axis inclined to that of the plate 25 so as to touch it in one region only. The seeds are sown in a single furrow produced by a blade 91, but a number of such machines may be arranged side-by-side.
