785,829. Powder distributers. TEAGLE, W. T. Jan. 5, 1956 [Jan. 21, 1955 ; Oct. 25, 1955], Nos. 1944/55 and 30517/55. Class 6(1). In a machine for broadcasting powdered materials which are carried by a hopper and discharged through an outlet in the base of the hopper into a distributer that rotates about a vertical axis, the outlet is offset from the axis of the distributer and is formed from parts that are adjustable to vary the size of the opening, the parts being together angularly adjustable about the axis of the distributer so as to vary the radial disposition of the outlet. As shown, a plate 5 is adjustably mounted on the bottom of the hopper by means of bolts 6 which engage in arcuate slots 7. A sliding panel 10 is mounted on one side of the plate and may be drawn back to leave a slot 11 forming the outlet for the' hopper. The position of the panel 10 is adjusted by means of a lever 15. The length of the outlet 11 is varied by means of a masking plate 25 provided with a pin 27 which engages in any one of a series of holes 26 in the plate 5. The distributer comprises a hub formed with a pulley to receive a belt drive, a triangular plate 4c being bolted to the hub and carrying a number of ribs or vanes 4d. In a modification, the masking plate may be provided with a bar by means of which the position of the masking plate may be adjusted for a further modification the masking plate may be replaced by a plate which may be moved longitudinally of the slot to vary the size of the opening. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, two discs 29, 30 are each formed with an arcuate slot 29a, 30a respectively. The discs are mounted face to face over a circular opening 31 in a plate 32 welded to the bottom of the hopper. The discs are clamped in position by lugs 33 and are adjusted relatively to each other so that the slots form an arcuate outlet which may be adjusted in size by rotating the discs 29, 30.
