A machine for spreading granular or powdery material over a surface comprises two rotatable distributing members 15 mounted in the sides of a wheeled frame and each rotatable about a fore-and-aft axis and provided with a shield 26 formed with a spreading edge of spiral form for spreading the material laterally of the machine. Material is fed from a hopper 13 by means of a reciprocating agitator 19 into a space formed by a curved plate 23 where the material is agitated by the 'blades 43 of the member 15 and is finally carried out by the blades 43 in the direction of arrow R. The amount of material delivered by the agitator 19 is controlled by an adjustable slide 20. Specification 871,246 is referred to.
