Apparatus for spreading pulverized or granular fertilizers comprises a bowl 6 and spout 7 which is angularly reciprocated below a hopper 1, the spout 7 being provided with openings 8, 9. To enable material to be uniformly spread on the ground a plate 12. is provided so that fertilizer discharged from the spout 7 strikes against the plate. As shown the plate 12 is located on both sides of the spout and extends along the open mouth of the spout. The plate may be stationary and secured to the frame of the machine so that the spout reciprocates between the plate.
