Abstract

1335036 Individual seed sowing device H TROSTER [trading as A J TROSTER] 11 Dec 1970 [11 Dec 1969 22 April 1970 26 Oct 1970] 59061/70 Heading A1D A device for sowing single seeds or kernels delivers kernels, by suction means, to separate compartments and allows each compartment in turn to release its kernel to the ground. A peripheral wall 27 of a wheel 6 which is rotatably trained by a shaft 4, rotates between two stationary walls 12, 16 supported on a bearing 38 to define a first or feed chamber and kernels enter from hopper 3 through opening 15 and are carried in depressions 35 to the bottom of the chamber. At this point bores 28 through the wall 27 can communicate, via semicircular slot 29' in the adjacent housing surface 40, with a source of partial vacuumthe peripheral channel 29 and the kernels are drawn against the bores and are carried to the top of the chamber, where the vacuum is disconnected. Each kernel drops against chute 20 extending from opening 19 and falls through to a second or distributing chamber. This is defined by the wall 16, the stationary housing wall 33, and an end wall 26 which is also rotatably entrained by shaft 4. Further walls 37 extending from wall 26 define pockets 26' aligned with respective bores to receive the kernels which fall through from the first chamber. They are retained in the pockets as the wall revolves until a half revolution has been completed and they reach and can fall through the gap 34 in the retaining wall to the ground. Scraper devices 23, 24, 25 engage the wall 27 to ensure that only the kernels in bores 28 are carried around. In modifications (Figs. 7, 8, 9 not shown) the bores may open out towards the vacuum source to prevent particles becoming lodged in them.
