Abstract
796,351. Gathering flowers. BASKETT, R. Feb. 28, 1956 [July 19, 1955], No. 20836/55. Class 6(3). A flower picking apparatus comprises a casing 1 movable over the crop and open only at its lower part 14, a perforated drum 6 being rotatable about a horizontal axis within the casing at a circumferential speed equal to the translatory speed of the casing, a fan 2 being rotatable within the drum to cause flower-heads to adhere by suction to its perforated surface and to be carried around by it, after severance by a fixed knife 16, to a point where the suction is cut off by a baffle 17 within the drum whereby the flower-heads are released. The drum is driven by a land-wheel 12 through a belt 9 and the fan is driven by a belt 4 from the towing tractor (not shown). Crop guides 15 project in front of the casing to raise the flower-heads.
