Abstract
745,260. Pneumatic separating. BURR, E. H., and STRETTLE, J. Aug. 16, 1954 [Aug. 25, 1953], No. 23456/53. Class 117. Leaves are separated from a mixture of leaves and hops, carried on a wire mesh belt conveyer, by air passing into a shroud positioned closely over the conveyer. As described, the mass of hops, leaves, &c. is carried from the hopper 1 by the belt 2 to a coarse grille 4 vibrated by an eccentric 6. Only the coarser material is retained by the grille 4 and slides down to a finer fixed grille 7 from which the large leaves are removed manually and the lateral stems are stripped by being fed manually to a picking unit 10 of the type described in Specification 702,700. The stripped hops &c. and the remainder of the material which has passed through the grille 4 on to the belt 8 are fed on to the wire mesh conveyer 9. Any petal and seed which passes through the mesh 9 is conveyed by belt 14 to a box 15, but the bulk of the material passes under the shroud 16 which is connected by ducts 17, having adjustable apertures 21, to the housing 18 of a suction fan 19. The housing 18 leads to a shoot 20 from which the leaves sucked up into the shroud 16 are discharged. The remaining hops are discharged on to a conveyer 22 leading to a hopper 23. Stands 24, 25 are provided for attendants who remove by hand any pieces of leaf, stem, string &c. reaching the conveyer 22. Specification 736,092, [Group I], also is referred to.
