Abstract
798,916. Vacuum railway brakes. KOFLER, G. Aug. 22, 1956, No. 25623/56. Class 103 (1) In an automatic vacuum brake system for railway vehicles wherein a tripping arm 28, movably mounted on a convenient structure at the side of the track is pivotable, so as to hit, or not hit, a striker arm 29 carried by the train, the arm 29 is arranged, when depressed, to close a valve 44, thus shutting off communication between passage 50 leading to the brake control pipe 46 and a pipe 51 leading to a vacuum reservoir 60, and to open a valve 43 allowing air to enter the pipe 51 through pipe 59 and an air inlet hooter warning device 58. The increase of pressure in pipe 51, by acting below diaphragm 52, causes the latter to be displaced upwardly thus opening valve 54 so that air is then enabled to enter from the atmosphere through ports 57, directly into the brake pipe 46, so that a brake application is rapidly brought into operation.
