Class 103(1) [Also in Group XXIX] In a manually-operable release valve, particularly for fluid-pressure braking systems, of the kind in which the valve stem 8 projects through an opening in the valve casing and is pivoted to the centre of a T-shaped lever 9 whereby a rocking movement of the latter causes one or other of the cross arms to engage an abutment 14 about which the lever then pivots to move the valve stem outwardly and open the valve 12, the two cross arms of the lever are enclosed in an auxiliary casing 7 formed with a slot 17 through which the operating arm of the lever projects, and the lever is so shaped that, when the valve is in the open position, it fills substantially the whole of the slot 17 and prevents the insertion of a foreign body by which the valve could be wedged open. The passages 2, 4, 22 lead, respectively, to the upper chamber of the brake cylinder, the lower chamber of the cylinder, and the train pipe of the vacuum braking system.
