Abstract
846,313. Compressed-air brakes. WESTING- HOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO. Ltd., SIMMONS, A. W., and WASHBOURN, J. Sept. 25, 1958 [Sept. 25, 1957], No. 30089/57. Class 103 (1). In a direct release triple valve device for compressed fluid braking apparatus, particularly as used on railway vehicles of the kind including besides application and releases valves 22 and 26, controlling the communication of a brake cylinder respectively with an auxiliary reservoir (not shown) and with exhaust, a so-called quick-service valve device 17, which when the pressure of compressed fluid is reduced below its normal fully charged value, causes further fluid to be withdrawn from that pipe so as to intensify locally the brake pipe pressure reduction and thereby assist in propagating the reduction rapidly down the length of the brake pipe, in which triple valve device the application 22, release 26, and quick service 17 valves are all formed as resiliently seating lift valves, which are arranged to be operated in common by a single movable pressure suspense element 13 subject respectively on its opposite sides in the manner usual in direct releases triple valves to brake pipe pressure and auxiliary reservoir pressure.
