739,785. Fluid-pressure brakes. WESTING- HOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO., Ltd. May 24, 1954 [May 27, 1953], No. 15176/54. Class 103 (1). A driver's brake valve for fluid pressure operated railway braking systems of the kind having a release position, a running position, and an emergency application position with a graduated release zone between the latter two positions over which the application and release of the brakes may be graduated, and comprising a pilot valve 2 and a relay valve 3 ensuring respectively the maintenance of a certain regulable pressure in a control reservoir 26 and the maintenance in the brake pipe connected to passage 47 of a pressure substantially equal to that of the control reservoir, is characterized in that an auxiliary valve 16 is situated in the passage between the main reservoir 17 and the brake pipe on the main reservoir side of the relay valve 3 and comprises manually-operable means 5 which permit or prevent the closing of said auxiliary valve 16 when the brake valve is in the graduated release zone. Such actuation is brought about by a cam 20 on the cylinder 4 which is turned by the handle 5. The control valve as described above can be used in systems in which there are included triple valves of the direct release type not providing graduated release of the brakes.
