Abstract
804,336. Fluid pressure brakes. WESTINGHOUSE AIR BRAKE CO. Aug. 15, 1956 [Aug. 15, 1955], No. 24921/56. Class 103 (1). In a triple valve for fluid pressure railway brakes, similar to that described in Specification 803,685 the quick service reduction insuring valve device 9 is so adapted that on being moved to an operative position to terminate a local quick service withdrawal of compressed fluid from the brake pipe 3 in the usual manner, it additionally exposes a pressure-responsive valve 59 interposed in the charging communication to the control reservoir 4 to a source of compressed fluid of which the pressure is at all times sufficient to maintain the valve closed so long as it is exposed, whereby the charging communication remains closed by the valve 59 until a late stage in the course of a complete release of the brakes, when the quick-service reduction insuring valve device returns once more to an inoperative position. The auxiliary reservoir 5 acts as a source of compressed fluid and is placed in communication with chamber 56 above the control reservoir charging valve device 10, through passage 41, valve cavity 99 in the reduction insuring valve 90 and passage 98 as soon as the brake pipe pressure in chamber 89 of valve device 13 has reduced to 6 p.s.i. below the normally fully charged pressure in the brake pipe.
