Abstract
771,983. Fluid-pressure brakes. VERWALTUNGSGES DER WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. Aug. 8, 1955 [Aug. 10, 1954 ; March 26, 1955; May 4, 1955], No. 22819/55. Class 103 (1). A driver's valve installation for compressed air brakes on locomotive comprises, in addition to the usual bell-shaped member 8, rotated by the control handle 10 to selectively open valves 25, 26 or 27 according as to whether the full service application position, as shown in Fig. 1, of the release, emergency application, or running positions, as shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4, respectively, are to be selected, a relay valve 6 and an auxiliary valve , 7. The recharging of the brake pipe 29 from the main reservoir 55 after an application is controlled by the relay valve 6 which is subject to the difference between a control pressure continuously variable by adjustment of the driver's handle 10 and the pressure in a chamber 54 connected to the brake pipe, the relay valve having an additional pneumatic control tending to open the valve in that a diaphragm member 42 is subject to the pressure in chamber 49, the duration of supply of fluid pressure thereto from the auxiliary valve unit 7 increasing with the pressure in a timing reservoir 66 the charging of which is effected from a chamber 64 in throttled connection with the brake pipe 29.
