Abstract

1,021,951. Fluid pressure brakes. WESTING- HOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO. Ltd. Sept. 17, 1964 [Oct. 3, 1963], No. 38998/63. Heading F2F. A distributer for fluid pressure operable braking apparatus comprises a control reservoir charging valve 1, a quick service valve 18 and actuator means 4 controlling the availability for operation of the quick service valve simultaneously with the opening and closing of the reservoir charging valve. Valve 18 is carried on a stem 24 provided with an upper diaphragm 25 experiencing brake chamber pressure above and atmospheric pressure below, and a lower diaphragm 22, 23 experiencing brake pipe pressure above and reservoir pressure below. The diaphragm 22, 23 also actuates a valve 5 which when open or shut connects the reservoir to the brake pipe by way of valve 1 through the sensitivity choke 2 or additionally through the smaller choke 6 to prevent loss of reservoir pressure. Diaphragm 4 experiences brake chamber pressure above and atmospheric pressure below and its positions at full and partial brake release allow the nose 12 to engage the spring-biased quick service valve seat 17 at steps 16 and 15, respectively. In operation the opening of the quick service valve depletes the brake pipe and the brake cylinder pressure increases, overcoming spring 7 to both disengage seat sleeve 17 to close the quick service valve and close the valve 1.
