Class 103(1) A distributer valve assembly for fluid pressure brakes for railway vehicles comprises means whereby in order to obtain a rapid release of the brakes of a train, it is possible to maintain for a considerable period a pressure in the brake pipe above the normal operational pressure without overcharging the auxiliary and control reservoirs. Such means comprises a bypass valve 50 which in the event of excessive brake pipe pressure acting in chamber 52 is pressed against spring 51 on to seats d and m. Since under these conditions the seats j and h of a throttle valve 20 are also closed, it is only possible for air from the brake pipe 10 to pass to the auxiliary reservoir 46 through nozzles 64 and 62 at a very limited rate of flow. The over pressure may thus be maintained in the brake pipe for as long as 50 seconds. When the brake pipe pressure is back to normal, valve 50 lifts and equalizes the pressures.
