1299408 Air pressure braking systems DAVIES & METCALFE Ltd 10 May 1971 [9 May 1970] 22531/70 Heading F2F In a railway compressed air braking system including a distributer valve at each vehicle responsive to a reduction of pressure in a brake pipe to control communication between an auxiliary compressed air reservoir and the brake cylinders means for controlling the duration of overcharge pressure application comprises a normally closed valve 22 operable to interconnect a main air reservoir 23 with a pressure operable valve 21 for controlling communication between the brake pipe 10 and a brake pipe pressure regulation chamber 12 and a delay reservoir 25 connected between the control valve 22 and the valve 21 enabling continuing operation of valve 21 after the closure of the control valve 22. The drivers valve 11 has a pressure regulation chamber 12 open to atmosphere through a restricted outlet 13 and a compression spring 14 acts between a cam surface 15 rotatable by the operating handle and a diaphragm 16 connected with a valve 17 controlling the flow of air from a main reservoir to a chamber at the other side of the diaphragm communicating with a reservoir 18, the valve being closed when air pressure in a chamber 19 balances the spring but when the handle is rotated the valve 17 opens until balance is restored.
